How to hunt wild boar

Wild boars or feral pigs are ideal animals for hunting enthusiasts to track and hunt. Not only are they environmental nuisances that are extremely destructive to land, they are also known for killing other wild animals and household pets. If you are ready to experience the thrill of wild boar hunting, here are a few suggestions to follow so you can bring home the bacon.

  • Choose a gun based on the distance you will be from the wild boar when hunting it. For close range hunting a .30 caliber will do just fine. If hunting from a distance you might choose a .30-06.

  • Get familiar with your hunting location during the off season. Take this time to set up hunting stands and feeders. Hunting stands allow you to sit up high and look down on your target. Feeders automatically dispense grain during preset times of the day throughout the off season. This will entice the wild board to your location and establish a feeding pattern.

  • Hunt wild boar in the early morning hours or in the late evening. Boar will leave the bedding area in the morning to look for food, so take advantage of them as they make their way down trails. The same goes for nighttime, as the boar will return to their bedding down those same trails.

  • Aim your shot at the boar's mid-shoulder region for an effective kill. You can also aim for the neck, although this is a smaller area and a tougher shot.
